Clifford K. Chiu is a corporate director, strategic advisor, and civic steward whose career has spanned finance, technology, education, healthcare, transportation, social welfare, and the arts across the United States and Hong Kong. He is a Special Advisor to General Catalyst, bringing his experience, context, and relationships to its Sovereign Resilience mission by helping align the firm’s capabilities and portfolio companies with national priorities in Asia to build enduring, mutually beneficial strategic partnerships. His career includes more than four decades on Wall Street and in private equity. Clifford joined Vista Equity Partners as a Senior Advisor in 2015 and served on its Executive Committee through mid-2026, advising on governance, strategic initiatives, institutional relationships, and talent development. He currently serves as an independent director of Finastra, Securonix, and TRG Screen and has served on 15 public and private company boards over his career.
Mr. Chiu serves as a Commissioner on the City of Austin Airport Advisory Commission and participates in the U.S.–China Track II Dialogue on the Digital Economy convened by the National Committee on U.S.–China Relations. He previously served as a Commissioner on the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars, on Hong Kong’s Financial Services Development Council, and on the Investment Committee of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority.
A retired partner of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR), Mr. Chiu founded and led Asia-Pacific capital raising and investor relations until 2014. Earlier in his career, he held leadership roles at JPMorgan Asset Management and Salomon Smith Barney/Citigroup across New York, Hong Kong, and Tokyo, and previously served as Senior Advisor to Neuberger Berman Group.
A lifelong champion for education and healthcare, Mr. Chiu serves on the University of Texas at Austin’s International Leadership Council and the GenATX Steering Committee for the City of Austin, and is a director or trustee of the Ascension Seton Foundation, the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians and St. James Settlement. He has endowed scholarships at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, the University of Pennsylvania, Pomona College, the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, and Hong Kong University Medical School — through which he is credited with mentoring hundreds of students and alumni. He launched the Chiu Endowment for Excellence in Mental Health for uninsured college students in central Texas and provided a cornerstone gift for Ascension Seton’s new Women’s Hospital, which opened in June, 2026.
A committed advocate for the Asian American community, Mr. Chiu is chairman of the advisory board of the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce. He personally underwrote the 2024 “Spread AAPI Love” nationwide storytelling project. In 2025, the Asian Business Development Center named him among its Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business.
