Clifford K. Chiu is a corporate director and private investment firm senior advisor as well as board or committee appointee for public sector and civil society organizations spanning education, healthcare, social welfare, and the arts in the United States and Hong Kong. Since 2015, he has been a senior advisor to Vista Equity Partners and now to its executive committee. Mr. Chiu currently serves on the boards of Acquia, Allvue Systems, Critical Start, Finastra, LogicMonitor, Securonix, and TRG Screen.
Mr. Chiu has served on the Commission on Presidential Scholars and is a participant in the U.S.– China Track II Dialogue on the Digital Economy as part of the National Committee on U.S. – China Relations. Previously, he served on Hong Kong’s Financial Services Development Council and the Investment Committee of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority.
A retired partner of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR), Mr. Chiu founded and led capital raising and investor relations for the Asia-Pacific region until 2014. With over four decades of global experience, Mr. Chiu held leadership roles at J.P. Morgan Asset Management and Salomon Smith Barney/Citigroup and their predecessor firms based in New York, Tokyo, and Hong Kong; and previously served as a senior advisor to Neuberger Berman Group.
Mr. Chiu is a director or trustee of the Ascension Seton Foundation, St. James Settlement, the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, and the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce. A lifelong champion for education and healthcare, Mr. Chiu currently serves on the University of Texas at Austin’s International Board of Advisors and has endowed annual scholarships at institutions including the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, the University of Pennsylvania, Pomona College, the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and Hong Kong University Medical School, for which collectively Mr. Chiu is credited with mentoring hundreds of students and alumni. He launched the Chiu Endowment for Excellence in Mental Health supporting uninsured college students in central Texas and provided a cornerstone gift to build Ascension Seton’s new Women’s Tower in Austin.
His community efforts are vast as he continues to set an example and to impact the Asian communities to which he serves. Mr. Chiu has personally underwritten initiatives, including 2024’s “Spread AAPI Love” nationwide storytelling project. In 2025, the Asian Business Development Center recognized Mr. Chiu as one of the Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business.
